Converting the Club Car Precedent (2014 and newer): what's different

From 2014 the Precedent keeps the same bucket and centre rod as the 2008–2013 model, but charging moves to Club Car's ERIC system and the onboard computer goes away on most carts. The fit list is close to the earlier Precedent; the charging and controller details are not.

Not sure it's this one? Compared with the Club Car Precedent (2004–mid 2008): its factory batteries are four 12V lead-acid batteries (here: six 8V lead-acid batteries in a molded bucket with dividers); charging differs — onboard computer (OBC) present — bypass needed for lithium charging (here: no OBC — ERIC charging (some 2014 carts still have an OBC)); 14 kits in our list fit this one but not that one, and 0 the other way round.

The battery bay

Same bucket, ridge and centre hold-down rod as the 2008–2013 Precedent, so the same proven pack sizes apply: 18.1 × 13.4 × 9.8 in (Epoch, Precedent bracket) and 13.14 × 12.24 × 10.15 in (a thru-hole pack on the centre rod).

Controller and charging

  • No OBC to bypass on most carts — but check: some 2014 carts still have one.
  • The ERIC-era controller is sold as a 250A replacement; a 200A-continuous pack is a sensible floor.
  • Use the lithium charger supplied with the kit; the ERIC lead-acid charger profile is wrong for lithium.

What owners get wrong

  • Look for the OBC under the seat on 2014 carts before assuming ERIC.
  • Keep the factory centre rod for thru-hole packs.
  • Most kits list "Precedent" without years: the bucket is the same from mid-2008, so that is usually safe.

Will a "universal" lithium battery fit my Club Car Precedent?

On the Club Car Precedent, often only with mounting work: the Precedent bucket has dividers, a raised center ridge and a center hold-down rod, so you need a thru-hole pack, a kit made for your model, or a bracket (and sometimes cutting the ridge). Several Amazon reviewers report packs that did not fit and could not be returned.

Do I need a new charger for a lithium Club Car Precedent?
