36V lithium golf cart batteries

Older carts — the 36V Club Car DS, E-Z-GO TXT and Medalist, Yamaha G2 to G16 — run on six 6-volt batteries. A 36V (38.4V) lithium pack replaces them without touching the controller, motor or wiring. Here are the 16 kits we compare, and which of them fit each 36V cart.

What's different about 36V conversions

  • Current matters more than you'd think. Many 36V carts have resistor drives or 325–350A controllers (Club Car DS, E-Z-GO PDS). Packs rated 100A continuous can cut out on hills; aim for 200A.
  • The interlock trap. On older E-Z-GO TXTs, the charger interlock circuit must stay connected after the lead-acid charger is removed, or the cart won't drive.
  • 12V accessories. A 36V-to-12V converter is rarely in the box; budget for one if you run lights.
  • Old hardware. Trays and hold-down rods on 20-year-old carts are often rusted — replace them before mounting a new pack.

36V lithium: questions people ask

Is there a lithium battery for a 36V golf cart?

Yes. 36V lithium packs are 38.4V LiFePO4 (12 cells) and replace six 6V lead-acid batteries. We compare 16 of them, listed from $732 to $2,360 on the brands' sites.

Should I convert my 36V golf cart to 48V lithium instead?

Only as a planned upgrade. A 48V pack on a 36V cart needs a 48V-capable controller, solenoid and charger, and changes the motor's load. A 36V lithium pack keeps everything stock — the simpler and cheaper conversion for most owners.

What charger does a 36V lithium golf cart battery need?

A lithium charger with a 43.8V final voltage (for a 38.4V LiFePO4 pack). Your old 36V lead-acid charger uses the wrong profile. Most 36V kits include one; battery-only packs need one added.

How far will a 36V lithium golf cart go?

Roughly in proportion to energy: a 36V 100Ah pack holds about 3.8 kWh, about 70% of a 48V 105Ah pack. Our range calculator estimates miles for your cart, seats and terrain.
