Beyond the battery

Lithium golf cart chargers

Your old lead-acid charger can't stay: it charges with the wrong profile and can overcharge or fault a lithium pack. Most conversion kits include a matched lithium charger — you need one of these only if yours doesn't, if you want a different plug, or if you want to charge faster.

Match the voltage exactly

A 36V (38.4V) pack needs a 43.8V charger, a 48V (51.2V) pack a 58.4V charger, a 72V pack about 87.6V. "48V" alone isn't enough — check the final charge voltage.

Pick the amps for your overnight window

Charge time ≈ amp-hours ÷ charger amps, plus a slow finish. A 105Ah pack takes roughly 7 hours on 15A, 6 hours on 18A. Faster isn't better if the pack's BMS limits charge current — check the battery's maximum.

Get the right plug

Club Car DS, Precedent, E-Z-GO and Yamaha receptacles all differ. Buy the charger with your cart's plug, a cart-specific port plug, or wire a new receptacle.

Onboard computers

Older Club Cars (OBC) and some carts with charge-inhibit circuits need a bypass or the kit maker's instructions before a lithium charger will work.

Chargers: questions people ask

Can I use my lead-acid golf cart charger on lithium?

No. Lead-acid chargers use a different profile (bulk, absorption, float, sometimes equalize) that can overcharge a LiFePO4 pack or trip its protection. Use a lithium charger matched to the pack voltage.

What charger do I need for a 48V lithium golf cart battery?

A LiFePO4 charger with a 58.4V final voltage. 15A to 20A suits most 100–105Ah packs for overnight charging; check the battery's maximum charge current.

Is the charger in my kit good enough?

Usually, yes: kit chargers are matched to the pack. Buy a separate one for a second location, a different plug, or faster charging within the pack's limit.
