Converting the Yamaha Drive (G29) (2007–2010): what's different

The first Drive (G29) years, 2007–2010, launched with four 12-volt batteries and use their own charge-plug shape. Epoch sells a separate "Yamaha 2007–2010" bracket and plug for its kits — buy the 2011+ version and it won't match.

Not sure it's this one? Compared with the Yamaha Drive (G29) (2011–2016): its factory batteries are six 8V Trojan T-875 (owner's manual) (here: four 12V Trojan T-1275 (owner's manual)); the charge receptacle is a Yamaha 48V 3-pin (2011+ shape) (here: Yamaha 48V 3-pin (2007–2010 shape)); 0 kits in our list fit this one but not that one, and 1 the other way round.

The battery bay

Packs sold with 2007–2010 brackets include Epoch's 18.1 × 13.4 × 9.8 in kit and 22 × 12.125 × 10.625 in (160Ah) and 13.14 × 12.24 in (thru-hole) packs from another maker. An owner measured a later Drive tray at about 14 × 32 in with 12 in to the seat.

Controller and charging

  • The stock DC controller is not documented by Yamaha; a 300A "factory OEM" replacement is sold, forums estimate about 250A.
  • The charge port's third pin is part of the charging logic — use a plug made for the 2007–2010 Drive.
  • No OBC.

What owners get wrong

  • Order the "Yamaha 2007–2010" configuration and plug, not "2011+".
  • Count the batteries: four 12V or six 8V changes the bracket.
  • The under-seat storage tray accessory is not for use with lithium.
