Converting the E-Z-GO RXV (2008+ · four 12V batteries (plastic tray)): what's different

RXVs came from the factory with one of two battery trays, and the year doesn't tell you which. This page is the four-12V version in a plastic tray. Kits for it use a different bracket from the six-8V metal tray, and the AC controller pulls about 235 amps.

Not sure it's this one? Compared with the E-Z-GO RXV (2008+ · six 8V batteries (metal tray)): its factory batteries are six 8V lead-acid batteries in a metal tray (here: four 12V lead-acid batteries in a plastic tray); the same kits in our list fit both.

How to tell it's this one

  • Four 12-volt batteries in a plastic tray (count them under the seat).
  • 2008 and newer.
  • E-Z-GO 48V triangle receptacle with charge inhibit.

The battery bay

E-Z-GO doesn't publish the tray size. Fleet Lithium sells the same 22 × 12 × 10.6 in pack for both RXV trays with different brackets (BR4402-R12 for this one), and Epoch an RXV configuration of its 18.1 × 13.4 in pack with a drill-free bracket for the plastic tub.

Controller and charging

  • The 2008+ Curtis AC controller is listed at 235A; by our rule of thumb (at least half the controller rating) choose 120A continuous or more — 200A gives headroom.
  • In overcurrent, an RXV can lock its electromagnetic brake — owners report this with undersized BMS ratings.
  • Some early 2008 RXVs have a Danaher controller.

What owners get wrong

  • Order the bracket for the plastic 4×12V tray, not the metal 6×8V one.
  • The under-seat storage tray accessory is not for use with lithium packs.
  • Keep the charge-inhibit wiring connected.
