Converting the Club Car Tempo (2018 and newer (lead-acid)): what's different

The lead-acid Tempo shares the Precedent's battery bucket and ERIC charging, so the same pack sizes fit. What you must check first is whether your Tempo is lead-acid at all: from 2019 Club Car also sold it with a factory lithium battery, which no conversion kit replaces.

Not sure it's this one? Compared with the Club Car Onward (2017 and newer (lead-acid)): the same kits in our list fit both.

How to tell it's this one

  • Six 8-volt batteries under the seat (no row of batteries = factory lithium).
  • 2018 and newer.
  • Club Car ERIC charge receptacle.

The battery bay

Brands that sell Tempo kits use their Precedent mounting: one maker's kit for "Precedent 09+, Onward and Tempo" uses the 13.14 × 12.24 × 10.15 in thru-hole pack on the centre rod, and RoyPow sells its 18.1 × 13.1 in pack with Club Car brackets for Tempo, Precedent and Onward.

Controller and charging

  • ERIC charging, no OBC.
  • The ERIC controller is listed at about 250A.
  • Use the kit's lithium charger; the factory lead-acid profile is wrong for lithium.

What owners get wrong

  • Lift the seat before you buy: if there's no row of lead-acid batteries, go to the factory-lithium page.
  • Fleet use (golf courses) often means worn cables — replace corroded terminals during the swap.
  • Keep the factory hold-down rod for thru-hole packs.

Will a "universal" lithium battery fit my Club Car Tempo?

On the Club Car Tempo, often only with mounting work: the Precedent bucket has dividers, a raised center ridge and a center hold-down rod, so you need a thru-hole pack, a kit made for your model, or a bracket (and sometimes cutting the ridge). Several Amazon reviewers report packs that did not fit and could not be returned.

Do I need a new charger for a lithium Club Car Tempo?
