Converting the E-Z-GO Express S4 / L6 (lead-acid models): what's different

The lead-acid Express (S4, and the six-seat S6/L6) is a lifted personal cart on a TXT-like tub. Six-seaters carry more weight and come with a bigger controller, so pack current matters as much as capacity. Recent Express models ship with factory lithium (ELiTE) — those are not conversion candidates.

How to tell it's this one

  • S4 / S4 HO 2012–2019: six 8-volt batteries. S6 2012–2018: eight 6-volt batteries.
  • Lifted body, larger wheels.
  • E-Z-GO 48V receptacle.

The battery bay

A 21 × 23.5 in TXT lithium tray is sold as compatible with the Express, and Fleet Lithium sells its 22 × 12 × 10.6 in pack for the S4 and S6 with a no-drill bracket. No pack wider than about 12.25 in is documented for this cart.

Controller and charging

  • The S6 uses a 400A controller — choose 250A continuous or more for six-seaters.
  • S4 controllers are DC SepEx (PDS family); a 250A Curtis 1206 is sold for "TXT Express 2010-up".
  • No OBC.

What owners get wrong

  • Six passengers roughly halve range compared with two: size up (150Ah+) for an S6/L6.
  • 2020+ Express models are 72V lead-acid or ELiTE lithium — not this page.
  • Check the bracket width: wide packs (13 in+) are not documented for the Express.
